In the purchase agreement, it was agreed upon that the buyer would dismount Låvin, and that this had to be done by 1st of July 2006.
Låvin was dismounted by good helpers from Brennabu and with the janitor Rolf Inge Nordberg as a leader, together with a team from Sør Aurdal who dismounted the slate roof.
Architect Ajas Mellbye's firm in Oslo was engaged as the architect for the building, who envisioned that the old barn could be transformed into Brennabu. The need here was an assembly house that would be able to house all the pupils from the various housing units for joint gatherings or entertainment in the evening, as well as become a party, meeting and concert venue for our other groups or for hire otherwise.
And in late autumn 2008 it was finished. The architectural firm Mellbye w/ Ingrid Bull and the local construction firm Vaset Bygg with Roar Dalen as manager had fulfilled all our wishes.
The main hall is 130 m2 where the outer planks of the Fønhuslåven are used as inner panels on 2 of the walls and the old floor was laid as it was, with notches and marks from tools and horse spurs over the decades. The old was to be truly old and what had to be new had to be completely new without pretending to be anything else. Thus, the combination of old planks and timber is set against steel and glass. We were very pleased with that. Toilets, wardrobe, a loft and a utility kitchen supplement the building.
The building was named Låvin, which is barn in a specific form in the Valdres dialect. At the opening party, there was both traditional food and a horseshoe throwing competition.
Fønhuslåven has also given Brennabu several good building grants; Materials "to spare" have meant that we have built: Eldstogo, Skålen, Stabburet, the warehouse for archery and a couple of wooden shelters.
We are delighted with what Fønhuslåven has given us in terms of both tradition, history and buildings and hope that future also will see it this way.
